postheadericon New Nan-Tec Line on the market

Nantec Red Mist Mono

Nantec Red Mist Mono

TF Gear have now released their Nan-Tec line. The new Nantec line claims exceptional reliability, performance, durability and suppleness all at an affordable price and it is available in several breaking strains from 6lb right up to 30lb. You can also get it ina choice of colours; gunsmoke, clear and Redmist

So why in red you may ask? Well, apparently, when you hook a carp it may see red, but before that time, it doesn’t. This is because red is the first tone to disappear in the colour spectrum making Nan-Tec Red mist almost invisible in water.

This line looks sure to make a big hit. You can pick yourself up a spool today over at Fishtec. Also, Dave Lane has written a really interesting entry on the Fishtec Blog in which he describes his season so far, talks about the superb catches of carp he has had already and also talks about Nan-Tec line, which he has been field testing. It’s a really interesting piece – well worth a look.

postheadericon Are you sitting comfortably?

TFGear Bank Boss

The TF Gear Bank Boss

I do like the look of the new TF GearBank Boss chair. Not only does it look good but it looks extremely comfortable, highly functional and all in all a great bit of kit. As a standard model it comes complete with the multi use arms and a tray attached. It also boasts four individually adjustable feet which is a great thing to have if you are on an uneven bank, you simply adjust the feet until the chair sits level. Then come the clever bits. An easily attached rod bar can be purchased for both the back and the front of the chair, meaning you are always ready to hit that run when it happens. No more missed bites. Everything is to hand, your rods right at your side and the tray holds all those bits and pieces which you need from time to time during a session that you don’t want to bury in your bag. There’s still room for a cup of tea of course!

All in all a great buy and those good people over at Fishtec have as usual got a good price for you, so jump over and take a look now at the  new TF GearBank Boss chair. There’s a good little video there to show you how it all works as well.

postheadericon Carp Fishing Tackle Beginner’s Guide

If you are new to carp fishing then you may be wondering where to begin when looking for tackle to start out with. For a while now I have been thinking of writing one article to help the beginner with those choices. However, I think it warrants a series of articles and so I am now starting to put these together. In the meantime, you may like to have a look at http://carp-fishing.co/carp-fishing-tackle-getting-started. This article will get you on the right tracks.

postheadericon Keep Your Hands Warm In Winter

Are you fed up with cold hands when you are carp fishing in the winter? Then here is an idea to help you to keep warm.

zippo hand warmerThe Zippo Hand Warmer is built for people like you. Carp anglers who want to carry on fishing in the cold but still need to be able to tie a new rig or pop on a fresh boilie. Also if your hands are just slightly wet, y0u can’t use pva, but wiping them on your clothing just makes that wet and you colder as a result. Warm your hands on your Zippo hand warmer and you’re ready to go.

Featuring a very sleek, compact design means your Zippo Hand Warmer fits easily into your pockets or even your gloves. The Hand Warmer uses Zippo premium lighter fluid to produce more than ten times the heat of traditional models and will last for at least 12 hours. With its one-year guarantee, the Zippo Hand Warmer is a perfect gift for any angler. It burns without a flame so is perfectly safe. I would go mad and have 2. If you are buying these as a gift, they are supplied empty so don’t forget to buy some fuel at the same time. Original Zippo Deluxe Hand Warmer

postheadericon Carp Fishing Tackle

Welcome to Carp Fishing Tackle. Over the last two decades, the art, or should I say science of carp fishing tackle has become more and more involved. From baitrunner reels to braids, from bolt rigs to bite alarms, zyg rigs, knotless knots, storm poles, the method, pva. You name it, carp fish has it. Since Dick Walker’s days and the famous 44lb Clarissa, things have come a long way. For better or worse, if you want to go carp fishing, you need to keep up with what’s going on. Or do you? Maybe you don’t. Maybe you want a split cane rod, a centre pin reel and a freelined piece of sweetcorn. Bet you can still catch a good sized carp if you try!

However, most carp anglers still want to know what’s new out there even if just to join in the discussions with other anglers.

Over the last few decades, carp fishing tackle has advanced at an amazing rate. We have seen the advent of the fishing bivvy; first we had a brolly, then we added storm poles and sides, then an overwrap and here we are today with a Nash Titan!

What about bite alarms? First we had a bit of silver foil hanging on the line, then a washing up bottle top, then a monkey climber and now we have electronic bite alarms, from optonics to the latest Delkims. How times have changes in the carp fishing tackle game.

Carp catches have gone from a double being great to a double being the norm in some commercial fisheries and the tackle has to move with the times and keep up. Now the biggest known carp is Two Tone, caught by John Bird from the Mid-Kent fisheries Connigbrook in April 2008 at a massive 67lb. A thirty pound carp is not too unusual on some waters, especially if you are going to France.

What about bait? In the last few decades, we have gone from par-boiled potatoes, through cat and dog food, then in the last twenty or so years, flavoured sweet corn has arrived on the scene along with all of the other particles such as maize, luncheon meat and flavoured meat became in fashion, and of course during the past two or three decades or so boilies have arrived and come on a long way. From the original flavours, through HNVs and all of the other variants and of course dips and glugs.

With the new baits of course, we have seen huge improvements in rigs. Hair rigs, bolt rigs, Zyg rigs, we’ve seen them all.

As our carp catches got bigger and we thought more about the carp and how we looked after them, we started to look at landing nets, unhooking mats, weigh slings and carp sacks. We began to think about how we looked after our carp. If there is one saying that non-anglers use which really pisses me off it’s “do you throw them back?”. Can you imagine throwing back a 20lb plus carp?

These days we look after our carp. We use expensive protective unhooking mats and even antiseptic, we don’t just “throw them back”

The other side of carp fishing of course is that we are not just on a day’s fishing trip. We are often on a session and so we are also camping. Sometimes overnight, sometimes a week session. We now need to cart around bivvies, chairs, bed chairs, alarms, stoves, luggage, trolleys – you name it we need it. Then there are the supplies; Thermos flasks, cookers, kettles, cool bags and the rest.

I think the point I am trying to make is that today’s carp angler, and some may say more’s the pity, doesn’t just tie his rod bag to his cross bar and cycle off to the local village pond with a rucksack on their shoulder. Today’s carp angler has a lot of gear and wants a tackle box, a holdall and other carp luggage to put it all in. He wants rods, reels, boxes, camping gear, bivvies, nets, and probably a 4X4 to fit it all in to!

This site is all about the angler, the carp and mostly about the huge amount of gear we all lug around with us. From the rig bit to the bivvy full of carp fishing tackle. Enjoy.
